Opinion: Stress-free Life Without A Smartphone

As of two weeks today I have not had a smartphone, for reasons to do with me going to court, etc, long story I may tell sometime. Anyway, I have had a phone that basically just calls and texts, it has no apps on it, it’s too slow for any of that stuff. So basically it just calls and texts, I love it. I don’t have to keep checking my phone every few minutes to see what the happenings are on Facebook, Snapchat, Instagram and Twitter. The thing now is I have lots of time to myself, so I am going to get back out walking and cycling, and quite possibly talking to real humans again.

I am not gonna lie its not easy, but the benefits I am seeing are remarkable in relation to my mental health.

I don’t know how long I won’t have a Smartphone, the longer the wait the better, I can start living life again.

What’s your opinion of Smartphones and today’s culture of always being on a screen?

  1. I would love to not be attached. I did a cruise to Alaska last year for my 50th and we had no signal and it was the most relaxing week of my life. Since I am trying to blog I am on several platforms so the scrolling addiction has started in earnest again. I also went on Twitter for the first time to follow Lin-Manuel Miranda. He is a great tweeter, puts out nuggets of happy and funny plus all the theatre stuff. He is the creator of Hamilton. I don’t have the discipline to just check at night or once a day. If I could go back to less attachment better for me, though.
    Quiet brain.

  2. Good for you my friend. I think that the majority of society today, depends way too much on their smartphones. There’s little to no face to face interaction going on. I believe that some young people, lack the social interaction skills, due to the excessive use of smartphones. But that’s just me. What do I know. :O)
